Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC) was named as Project Finance Rating Agency of the Year (Malaysia) for 2020. This is the third time that MARC has earned this industry distinction, having previously won this accolade in 2016 and 2015.
Awarded by Hong Kong-based The Asset, The Asset Triple A Infrastructure Awards 2020 recognise key institutions that have contributed to the development of infrastructure in Asia and the Pacific, which remains pivotal to the region's economic growth and development.
The Project Finance Rating Agency of the Year award honours the overall contribution of a credit rating agency to the debt capital markets, taking into account the agency's contributory role in project development and debt structuring, leading to its primary undertaking of rating debt related to infrastructure projects.
MARC Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Jamaludin Nasir says of the accolade, "This award acknowledges our role as a key player in the project finance space, with our robust framework for assessing the credit quality of project financing recognised as best-in-class. MARC will continue to proactively identify emerging risks in this segment and engage with stakeholders accordingly given the current uncertainties, reflective of its expertise in the rating of project finance."
MARC provides ratings in various corporate sectors, with key capabilities in project finance given our longstanding track record in rating domestic toll roads, power plants, water assets and ports. MARC has also established its credentials in green financing, having rated the majority of solar power projects in Malaysia.
Noteworthy deals rated by MARC include the RM1.0 billion Sukuk Murabahah issued by Quantum Solar Park (Semenanjung) Sdn Bhd, which is the world's largest Green Sustainable and Responsible Investment (SRI) Sukuk, the RM400.0 million Sukuk Wakalah issued by Beijing Enterprise Water Group (M) Limited, and the RM245.0 million Green SRI Sukuk Wakalah issued by Sinar Kamiri Sdn Bhd.
MARC is also the recipient of the Rating Agency of the Year (Malaysia) award by The Asset for 2019, having previously received this award in 2018. These wins are testament to our position as a valued capital market intermediary.
