Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC) announced today the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors and the retirement of two directors. Following the changes, the size of MARC’s board is maintained at six directors. Newly appointed to the board with effect from April 17, 2017 are Dr. Veerinderjeet Singh and Mr. Toi See Jong.
Dr. Veerinderjeet Singh’s career as a tax specialist spans over 35 years and includes roles as an Inland Revenue Officer, Tax Partner/Executive Director at Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young in Malaysia, and Associate Professor in Taxation at the University of Malaya. A noted authority on Malaysian taxation, he is a frequent speaker on the subject and has authored numerous publications, including books and articles in local and international tax, law and accounting journals. He is a co-founder and Chairman of Axcelasia Taxand Sdn Bhd, a boutique tax advisory firm and a member of Taxand Global, in which he is also serving as a board member. Dr. Veerinderjeet is also an independent director on the Board of the Bank of Nova Scotia Berhad and member of the Audit Committee of InvestKL. He also serves as an Executive Chairman of Axcelasia Inc, an integrated professional service provider listed on the Catalist market of the Singapore Stock Exchange. Dr. Veerinderjeet is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Amsterdam-based International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation, a trustee of the Malaysian Tax Research Foundation, and a member of the Paris-based Tax Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce. He received a first class honours degree in accounting from University of Malaya and a doctorate from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Mr. Toi See Jong is the CEO of Tokio Marine Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd and the current President of the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia. He qualified as an actuary in the United Kingdom and has 27 years of experience in the insurance industry in Malaysia as well as in China, Singapore and Hong Kong. His previous experience encompassed various roles in major international firms as well as senior positions in early stage insurance companies. He is also the Chairman of Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Berhad and serves on the board of the Malaysian Insurance Institute. Mr. Toi holds an Honours degree in Actuarial Science Statistics from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries.
MARC also announced the retirement of two directors, En. Md Adnan Md Zain and Mr. Vincent Kwo Shih Kang, who had each completed two terms of service on the Board of MARC.
The appointments of Dr. Veerinderjeet and Mr. Toi See Jong will bring new skills, knowledge and considerable experience that will drive MARC’s key governance and strategic initiatives as well as guide the organisation along a trajectory of continued success in the credit rating sector.
