Boon Huat is responsible for sovereign credit ratings at MARC. He previously worked as an economic consultant at the Paris-based OECD Development Centre. During his time there, he focused on generating policy recommendations to encourage stable, sustainable, and equitable economic growth and development in Southeast Asia.
Prior to this, Boon Huat was research fellow at the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER). At MIER, he was responsible for the well-regarded quarterly Business Conditions Survey Report. He participated as a consultant in, among others, projects commissioned by the state governments of Sabah, Perak and Negeri Sembilan, the Ministry of Finance, as well as the Jakarta-based Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). He was also lead-trainer in the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) trade and investment promotion training programme for civil servants from African nations.
An economist by training, Boon Huat has a Bachelor of Economics and Master of Economics from Nagoya University, Japan. He also has another Master of Economics from the University of Malaya.
